Either reading points the same direction for a beginner: don't overthink the plan, do the five basics consistently, and add variety later.

Common mistakes beginners make

  • Skipping the regression. Trying full push-ups or a dead-hang pull-up on day one usually means poor form, which trains the wrong pattern. Start at the level where you can do all your reps with control.
  • Progressing on a schedule instead of on performance. If you can't yet do your target reps with clean form, don't move to the harder variation just because “it's week 3.”
